Entry 3_ Nguyen Ngoc Tram

● Item 1: Racism



_ Type of bias: Discrimination, prejudice.
_ Analysis: The comic show 2 men, the left one is a white person and the right one is a black person. The black one is in jail, while the while one sees the black one through jar. This is racial discrimination and is against the human rights. It is also a negative judgment or opinion formed about a group without knowledge of the facts. The black people is taken prejudiced by other group of people.

 ● Item 2: Barbie doll's proportion.

_ Type of bias: Assumption.
_ Analysis: the picture is a comparison between a Barbie doll’s proportion and a woman’s proportion. There are many people believe that Barbie doll is pretty and they want to have a body’s proportion like Barbie doll ( there are some people even come to plastic surgery to be more like Barbie doll ). What they think is based on limited knowledge of the facts. Because the fact that they will look ridiculous like above woman.
● Item 3: Social problem.

Immigrants
Urban crime
Welfare recipients, immigrants, African-Americans
The “decline” of the family
Women, gay, lesbians
The bombing of Pearl Harbor
Japanese Americans
Drug use and drug-related crimes
Colombians, African-Americans
The decline of the American economy
Japanese
Stiff competition for school prizes/College admission
Asian Americans

_ Type of bias: Scapegoating.
_ Analysis: The act of blaming others for something when in reality no one person or group can be held responsible for something that has occurred, holding one person or group responsible for all the community’s problems.

  1. your 3items are well analyzed. However, there's something in the 2nd item that i think we should notice. In my opinion, it's not about assumption since there's no knowledge to be limited in this picture, if your analysis is for the picture only. On the other hand, if you are identifying bias in the article (from the link) then it's still not assumption, i think it's discrimination.
