Item 1 : Coloreria Italiana

1. Discription : 

The advert opens with a woman doing her laundry. Her scrawny, white husband walks by and tries to seduce her. She rejects him by shoving him into an improbably spacious washer. After her husband drowns in detergent, she opens the machine and becomes really happy and satisfied because in front of her is a buff black man.


     2. Types of bias : 

• Discrimination (Racism and Sexism)
• Prejudice

     3. Identifying bias :

This advert shows the racial prejudice that black men are well-built and physically attractive, unlike the scraggy white men. Racism also found in this advert along with their slogan “Colored is better”. It also gives the message of sexism because the wife seems to have absolute power to shove her husband and change him into the type that she wants.

Item 2 : Ketchup Lids

1. Discription :

In 1953, Del Monte ketchup bottles got new lids. The ad was a picture of a woman opening the bottle and it read “You mean a woman can open it?”. On the advertisement there is a surprising woman with her mouth wide-opened when she discovered she can open the ketchup bottle with its new lid

3. Identifying :  

This ad and the slogan with the word “woman” underlined are really offensive when showing a clear point of view of sexist: discrimination against women. It indicates that women are-too-fool-that-they-canNOT-even-open-a-ketchup-bottle-themselves and their new lids makes it easy-enough- for-a-woman-to-open, which means that everybody can do it as well, even the children and babies.

Item 3: Intel ad.

1.      Description: 

       

The advertisement, which is for a new generation of micro-processors, shows six black sprinters crouch in the start position in front of a white man wearing a shirt and chinos in an office. Above the image, there is a slogan which reads: "Multiply computer performance and maximize the power of your employees."

3.     Identifying bias:

    

    People can easily recognize the connotation of a white master surveying a group of black workers who apparently bowed at his feet. This shows the stereotype that white men are always smarter and superior to the black ones. Another bias is the racial discrimination in work place where the boss is always a tidy white man, while the other employees are black men who always have to be obedient and be trampled over by their boss.
