Entry 1_Duong Tung Son

Notes: All rhetorical devices are underlined.

Item 1: Poems

LOVE OF MY LIFE

Heart is full of warmth,
Feel the depth of his soul,
The beauty of his character,
The truth in his voice.

Charm of his face
Filled with grace,
Deep loving eyes,
Wonderful smile.

Placed in my arms,
Is joy filled with flowers,
His fragrance fills the air,
I feel the presence of his care.

Helps' me when I am down,
Feeling low and blue,
Understands me when I am confused.
Prays' for me when I am scared.

Au: Jenessey Dias

I have just found out a wonderful relation between deeply meaningful messages in the content of the poem and many rhetorical devices in how to enhance the moral the poet express in the positive way. I am sure that the readers also have the same feelings as mine in the viewpoint on the poetry such as the special form of the poem which is one of some free-style poem and rhetorical devices. The poet often makes a full use of many comparative relations and the metaphor by many vivid images such as “heart, soul, voice, flowers, etc”. Moreover, that is considered as a very successful way of expression in mixing many kinds of tastes of life. Last but not least, the poet shows us a very effective way of rhyming with “face – grace, air – care, etc”.

Item 2: Cartoon: Tom and Jerry

Tom And Jerry is a series of theatrical short subjects (cartoons) created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer that centered on a never-ending rivalry between a housecat (Tom) and a mouse (Jerry) whose chases and battles often involved comic violence. Hanna and Barbera ultimately wrote and directed one hundred and fourteen Tom And Jerry cartoons at the MGM cartoon studio in Hollywood, California between 1940 and 1957, when the animation unit was closed down. The original series is notable for having won the Academy Awards for Best Short Subject (Cartoons) seven times, tying it with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies as the most-awarded theatrical animated series. For me, to show the specific view on this cartoon, it is really unable, but I can show some interesting summary of it. Tom and Jerry return to basics, chasing each other in an all-new series of hilarious cartoon shorts. With their endless rivalry and slapstick gags, this classic cat-and-mouse comedy team scrambles, slides and slams onto the screen, creating over-the-top mayhem and laugh-out-loud memories in the all-new Tom And Jerry Tales.
